Cycle Chap is a local start-up bicycle accessories shop. As the first site to be launched for the business I was honored to make the concepts imagined by the client become a reality. The site has a full online store functionality and makes it easy to contact the dealer directly. The site was launched in August, and now just in September Cycle Chap has already sold several helmets. I am anxious to see what the future holds for this client! The client has been doing a great job adding and editing content using the WordPress platform used for this site. Peddle on!

He requested a website that would be simple and give the most basic information about his practice as it is developing. Most importantly viewers can sample the music, get informed on his tour dates, and stay in touch with where his music is going. I am excited to be a part of it!

Imagine an Ocean came to me for a redesign of their website. Having new van decals and with their business picking up, they requested the need for something more professional and viewer friendly. The site has been built with WordPress so now the client has the full ability to edit any content they may wish to change as well as continue with their blog right on the same site rather than having to edit it elsewhere and have a different platform for each site. The result was a look and feel that is now consistent with their identity.

I have experimented with the CMS platforms WordPress and Drupal, and different themes you can start with. Some of these themes include a blank one from Elliot Jay Stalks, a minimal one from Studio Dessign, and also a random Drupal theme at one time, which I customized the CSS for. I am now trying out one of Nick Roach’s “Elegant Themes” for WordPress. It isn’t necessarily that I have switched to the CMS theme or platform for need of a new design, but rather the functionality that the theme has included is wonderful to use, and I wanted to feature a blog that was within my website rather than having a separate blog elsewhere. Elegant Themes are appealing to start with for many reasons. Having looked into the theme’s capabilities, I was excited to try it out. It is affordable and completely customizable since CSS is able to manipulate all his themes to your liking. It is enjoyable also to have included things such as the short codes, sliders, custom menus etc. making it a great starting point for a full-featured website. I highly recommend looking into an Elegant Theme that fits your sites needs. Cheers Nick Roach.

I was asked to make some design edits on this band website “Alotia” recently and was impressed with weebly.com, which they were using. The band had set up the site with this free website template system and it was very easy for them to get it started with no coding knowledge. When I first logged into their account I had the impression that it would be difficult to have full control over the template, but to my surprise it allows full css and html control! I’m not about to say I will use weebly for creating sites, but it a practical solution for someone that wants to get something started and then can ask for more custom styling later.

Designing and developing this website for Datamart was a good experience. In the beginning I was curious about the pros and cons to developing with a CMS (Content Management System) so I created the site with Drupal and then with WordPress to experiment with their benefits. (Not on the clients watch…) After many hours of experimentation, in the end I ended up coding the site with static html and php. The reasons for this were simple; the client wasn’t in dire need of being able to make updates on their own, no and no blogging functionality was needed either. It was a good opportunity to get a better handle on WordPress and Drupal and thankful for the experience.
